After walking through history, we cooled off with something sweet and refreshing—a stop at Señor Paleta, where we savored artisan popsicles bursting with tropical flavors. Every bite of mango, passionfruit, and coconut was a burst of Puerto Rican sunshine.

Nestled in the mountains above Ponce, Hacienda Buena Vista is a restored, fully operational coffee plantation that tells the story of Puerto Rico’s coffee culture. As I learned about the sustainable methods of cultivating this treasured crop, I greatly appreciated the island’s dedication to preserving its culinary traditions.

One of the most unforgettable experiences on this journey was a visit to the fishing village of La Parguera. We boarded a private boat and navigated through mangrove cays, meeting local fishermen who shared their expertise in a hands-on demonstration of sea creatures. This wasn’t just another seafood experience—it was an intimate connection to the ocean’s bounty and the people who make their living from it.
Dinner followed, and as the sun dipped below the horizon, we did something truly special—swimming in the bioluminescent bay. When they broke the water’s surface, my hands glowed with an ethereal blue light. Floating in this natural phenomenon was nothing short of pure magic.
