A Fairytale Escape: The Delicious Wonders of France
Some places linger in your heart long after you leave, especially when it comes to the taste of France. Colmar, France, is one of those places for me. Nestled in the Alsace region, this impossibly charming town looks like it was plucked out of a storybook. It inspired the enchanting village in Beauty and the Beast. But beyond its half-timbered houses and winding canals, Colmar is a dream for food lovers—especially those with sweet teeth. The sheer number of bakeries here is mind-blowing. Walking through the cobblestone streets, fresh croissants and buttery kougelhopf fill the air, making it nearly impossible to resist popping into every patisserie. And honestly, why would you resist?
For women seeking an enriching and safe travel experience, Colmar is a perfect destination for solo trips for women. Check out Colmar, which is a place for Instagram-worthy photos. Its welcoming atmosphere, walkable streets, and abundance of cozy cafés make it ideal for exploring at your own pace while indulging in world-class pastries and local delicacies. Did you know Colmar is known for gastronomy? Well, and the Colmar Alsatian wine!
But my French culinary adventure didn’t stop there. Paris called, and with it, an unforgettable pastry tour that blended history, artistry, and indulgence in the most delicious way possible.
Taste of France Featuring Colmar: A Fairytale Setting Overflowing with Bakeries – A Haven for Solo Travel Groups
Imagine stepping into a town where every corner looks like a painting—pastel-colored houses adorned with flower boxes, narrow streets lined with cafés, and an atmosphere frozen in time. That’s Colmar. And while the scenery is captivating, the bakeries are the show.
Every bite tastes like a masterpiece, from flaky, golden croissants to delicate pain au chocolat. The region’s signature pastry, kougelhopf, is a must-try—a beautifully sculpted, slightly sweet brioche with hints of almonds and raisins. Pair it with a café au lait, and you have a perfect morning in Alsace.
One of my favorite memories is wandering into a family-owned boulangerie, drawn in by the sight of fresh tarte flambée being pulled from the oven. The baker, a third-generation pastry chef, shared how his grandmother’s recipes still shape the flavors of their creations today. It’s moments like these—where food, tradition, and storytelling collide—that make travel so powerful.
For those looking for solo travel groups, Colmar is a welcoming and friendly destination that allows you to immerse yourself in its fairytale charm fully. Travel Deliciously specializes in crafting personalized small group experiences, ensuring that solo travelers feel comfortable, connected, and well taken care of during their journey.
Taste of France Featuring Paris: A Parisian Pastry Tour to Remember
Paris is a city that elevates food to an art form, and when it comes to pastries, it’s an experience like no other. This year, Travel Deliciously curated a journey through some iconic patisseries, allowing guests to taste their way through history and flavor.
Stop 1: Aux Merveilleux de Fred – A Heavenly Start
Our first tasty France stop was a Parisian gem known for its Merveilleux—a delicate, cloud-like creation made of meringue and whipped cream. Biting into one is like tasting pure magic. Light, airy, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious, it’s the treat you dream about long after you’ve left.

Stop 2: L’Éclair de Génie – A Masterpiece in Every Bite
Next, we indulged in the art of éclairs at L’Éclair de Génie. These are not your typical éclairs. Each is crafted with intricate precision, featuring flavors like passion fruit, hazelnut praline, and yuzu. Every bite was a balance of crisp choux pastry, luscious filling, and glossy glaze—proof that even the simplest dessert can be an exquisite work of art in Paris.

Stop 3: Méert – Napoleon’s Wife’s Favorite Waffles
At Méert, we stepped into a slice of culinary history. Famous for its delicate, vanilla-filled waffle cookies, this patisserie once charmed Napoleon’s wife, Josephine. The secret? A 17th-century recipe that remains unchanged. The crisp yet tender texture, the creamy filling, the way it pairs perfectly with espresso—it’s a bite of history that transports you to another era.

Beyond Pastries: Sacred Sites & Local Richness
While food is my passion, I also believe in the power of travel to nourish the soul. This journey through France included visits to places rich in history and meaning.

Basilique du Sacré-Cœur: A Pilgrimage to the Holy Doors
Standing atop Montmartre, the Basilique du Sacré-Cœur offers more than just breathtaking views of Paris. We continued our pilgrimage to seek out the Holy Doors, a profound experience for those looking to deepen their spiritual journey. The energy inside the basilica is indescribable—peaceful yet humbling.

Manoir d’Apreval in Pennedepie: A Taste of Normandy
Traveling outside of Paris, we found ourselves in the rolling countryside of Normandy at Manoir d’Apreval, an organic cider estate. Tasting their apple-based specialties—crafted from orchards untouched by chemicals—was an experience in purity and tradition. Each sip carried the crisp sweetness of the region, a taste memory that lingers long after you leave.
